The Goddess Ganga

According to legend, the Goddess Ganga descended from her celestial abode in response to the petitions of an ancient royal family, granting them purification and spiritual liberation. For thousands of years yogis have practiced on the banks of the Ganga, honoring the river as a living goddess whose spiritual energy empowers their efforts.

Early morning before breakfast at an ashram where I stayed, we offered a morning chants and prayers to the Ganga, offering gratitude for her motherly and life-giving power. We embarked on a sacred walk to her banks, meditated, and shared our sacred prayers for ourselves, family, community, and world. We floated fresh flowers and dipped in her purity. She is known as a significant place for self realization and the water of the river is celebrated as the direct and effective medium of connecting with the divine power.
