How to Prepare for your first ICY Yoga Class

Research your options

Congratulations! By now you have researched yoga studios in Castle Rock, CO, and discovered that Inner Connections Yoga & Wellness, ROCK Salt Therapy & CommuniTEA has a wonderful reputation, a renovated studio, and longevity in the business of helping people heal themselves. When you attend classes with us, you engage in creative sequencing and inspired teachings given to you by professional yoga instructors, many with decades of experience practicing, studying, and instructing. At ICY, you belong to an inclusive yoga and wellness center surrounded by people who support your personal growth, physical health, well-being, and yoga journey.

  • You have the option to participate in a First Timer’s Special.  If you are new to our studio, invest $35 in yourself and receive the following: learn about the history of yoga, the studio, etiquette, and our programs; receive recommendations of classes suitable to your health and wellness; take a tour, and MORE!  You also receive a FREE visit (value: $19) to try a class in the studio.

  • Stop by for information and a tour of the studio.

  • Peruse our yoga schedule online and purchase a drop-in visit at $19 - try a class!

Before You Arrive:

  • Please do not eat within 2-4 hours of the practice.  After practicing yoga a few times, you will find the time frame that works best for you to eat. Small items/snacks are okay to eat before class.

  • Arrive at least 10 minutes before class begins to complete paperwork if it is your first class in the studio, to check-in, to find your space in the room, and to take care of personal needs.

  • We are an authentic yoga studio that honors the teachings of the Himalayan Masters. This is a spiritual discipline and you will learn many aspects of the yoga tradition as you practice here.

Attend a Class – choose an appropriate class

  • We have classes for beginners (yes, brand new!), all levels, intermediate, and advanced practitioners. Choose the class that meets your specific needs. Read the class descriptions for more information. Our classes are listed on the schedule in order of physical difficulty.

  • Items to bring with you

    • Bring a mat with you. We can loan you a mat for your first day and provide a loaner if you forgot your mat. Consider purchasing a mat once you decide you will attend classes regularly.

    • Bring a hand towel if you are taking an INFRARED Yoga class. We provide them if you forget yours.

    • Bring water, if you want (ONLY clear liquids are allowed in rooms; no smoothies, health shakes, sugary or colored drinks). We sell water and coconut water as well as teas and coffees before and after your practice.

    • You may leave your socks on in a Yoga Therapeutics class.

    • No other objects are allowed in the room (phone, wallet, keys, purses, bags, etc.). Please leave them at home, in your car, or bring a lock to put them in a locker at the studio.

  • Dress comfortably. Wear regular workout clothes or clothes specifically for yoga. Yoga or running pants are a good choice.

  • Shoes are removed at the front of the studio. Jackets are hung in entryway.

  • Leave valuables at home or in your car. If you want to bring items into the studio, please bring a lock so that you may protect your goods.  Locks are to be removed before you leave the studio.

  • Use the restroom.

  • Enter the room quietly.  No talking once you have entered our sacred space (our CommuniTEA space is for talking, spending time together and gathering before and after classes).

  • Introduce yourself to your teacher.  Let her/him know it is your first yoga class and s/he will keep an eye on you and help you when needed.

During the practice

  • This is your time. Listen to your body. Rest when you need, relax, and modify the practice as it works for you.

  • If you need to take care of personal needs (bathroom et. al.), please leave the room and return quietly so as not to disturb other students.

  • Namaste (nah-mah-stay): Namaste is a word you will likely hear in class.  It comes from the ancient language of Sanskrit, and it roughly translates to “the light in me honors the light in you.”  Your teacher might address the class with this phrase at the beginning.  Many classes end with everyone bowing and saying this in unison.  Some even start with this. It portrays goodwill and honor.

  • Classes often end with Savasana Pose, also known as Corpse Pose, or in meditation. Savasana is a relaxation pose and involves lying on the floor with your eyes closed.

  • When class is over, please leave the room quietly.

After class

  • Feel free to ask the instructor questions that you may have regarding the practice after class is over. S/he will be in the CommuniTEA space to answer questions.

  • Hydrate: Yoga poses relax the muscles, stimulate the internal organs, and “wring out” venous blood, creating heat and flushing within the body.  Be sure to drink sufficient water in the hours before your class and drink more water after class, and throughout the rest of the day.

  • Let the front desk know how you enjoyed the class and what we may do to improve the class or our service.

Namaste!
